Finishing up the parts

It’s been a while since I posted, but I’ve been working on the boat almost every night, finishing up the parts and getting them ready for assembly.

I put the gussets on the other side of each frame:

Encapsulated everything in two coats of epoxy.

Built the transom. First I attached the transom frame:

Then I cut the transom to the angle on the plans. I put this off as long as possible because it seemed pretty complex. I should have listened to my intuition because I screwed it up by cutting the angle wrong and veering off the line.  Fortunately I was able to fix it by gluing on a few shims. It took probably four nights to get it right. In retrospect I should have left it square and faired it to the right angle when I plank the hull.

Then I built the centerboard trunk halves:

Fiberglassed the inside of of the trunk:

And assembled the two halves, which I think officially marks the end of building the boat parts and the start of building the boat!

The results of the last two months of work in one photo:

This photo shows, from front to back:

  • The stem and breasthook
  • The assembled centerboard trunk
  • The frames from the bow aft
  •  The transom in the very back
Next step is to make the building frame  so I can start assembling the frame.
